"HOT BOOK ON READER'S DEN"

Happy Monday Morning to Everyone.
Many exciting things have been happening for me and for the book. Reader's Den just awarded Deadly Pleasures "HOT BOOK" status. I am in the top 100 Indie Books, top 10% on Amazon Kindle, and the top 10% on softcover books out of 8 million books.  I know that Bill would be delighted if he were here to see it. I am looking forward to having my family for Thanksgiving and I wish you all a VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  The Holidays look really exciting because of my grandson, Charlie, who just turned two years old. I just gave him a Kindle Fire for his birthday. By the time he is three he will be ready for  an Apple tablet. Thank you all for helping to make Deadly Pleasures such a success. I am working on Deadly Secrets as we speak.
All the best,
Mary Firmin

AWARDS FOR DEADLY PLEASURES

Yeah! Deadly Pleasures is a winner!

Hi Friends,
,
I want you to know that Deadly Pleasures has been selected as one of the top 100 Indie Books of 2012. It is thanks to all of you who have purchased the book and given me fabulous reviews. Please check the professional reviews below.

"Firmin writes more like a seasoned storyteller than a debut novelist,...Deadly Pleasures  is recommended for readers who like to be both titillated and entertained. Ones certainly hopes that the author, an iUniverse Rising Star, has more naughty novels up her sleeves." Jill Allen, Clarion Reviews. (Five star review)

"Firmin's first novel is a first-rate murder mystery...swiftly paced tale of lust, seduction, duplicity and horror, Firmin's debut easily keeps the pages turning." Kirkus Reviews

"Sex and the City meets James Patterson in this tale of friendship that's peppered with enough thriller action to make Deadly Pleasures a solid guilty pleasure." Blueink Reviews

Deadly Pleasures doesn't rely on gimmicks. Firmin writes with authority. Fully developed characters keep the story moving. -Reviewed by Doris Parmett, National Best-selling author of Lies, Risk, and 11 other novels.

"There is a nice balance between romance and mystery making this a great read. I always enjoy a good mystery and I am looking forward to more of Firmin's books as this is one of the best mysteries I have read!" -Kristie from Readers Favorite

"While I've been struck by her abundant humor, I am a little ill at ease, how Mary Firmin, most evidently a woman, managed to acquire such intimate details of America's deepest abysmal levels of human depravity. If you are excited by murder, mutilations, SM or practically any other sign of human degeneracy, then this book is for you." -Stan Law

"A detective story with some powerful sado-masochism, Deadly Pleasures is set in the Hollywood lifestyle complete with wealth, yachts, trips to Catalina. It is filled with hot guys and hungry women. There's love, even love that fulfills and there is lots of infidelity. Best of all, it's well written. The mystery holds your attention, the characters matter, and the pages keep turning along with the twisting clues." -Kenneth A. Weene

Men don't let the cover fool you check out the two reviews above that are from men! It's a great murder mystery that men and women both can enjoy! Get yourself a copy today! Amazon, Kindle, B&N

Best Regards,
Mary Firmin

A FUN REVIEW FOR DEADLY PLEASURES

Stan Law reviewed Deadly Pleasures

Deadly and most enticing Pleasures July 9, 2012
While I've been struck by her abundant humor, I am a little ill at ease, how Mary Firmin, most evidently a woman, managed to acquire such intimate details of America's deepest abysmal levels of human depravity. If you are excited by murder, mutilations, SM or practically any other sign of human degeneracy, then this book is for you. If you like to look at all of the above with a wink and a tickle, than tickled you will be by Mary's frequent ventures into the realm of sardonic if often explosive bouts of humor. "She was obsessed with her wieght, she survived solely on lettuce and Champagne." Don't you just love that turn of phrase?

Either way, unless you are a vehement prude, you are going to enjoy this escapade. And if you are, don't show your copy to your wife. She'll only steal it to read it herself.

As for ladies who'd venture to read this book, well you are also going to enjoy romance. First timid, shy, then, gradually fulminating into a conflagration... you'd better read it for yourself.

Only please, Mary Firmin, do tell me that you did not do all the research yourself; and if you did, I hope you were wearing a bulletproof vest and a chastity belt. As for the four principal ladies in her novel, well, I am just a bit sorry that I am of an age that I could no longer qualify as their exclusive boytoy. Now that would be a hilarious experience.

Stan I.S. Law, author of One Just Man

Review by Brenda Sorrels

                                                      DEADLY PLEASURES

If you want a great ride, something exciting and fast paced, then this is the perfect book to read. Things heat up right away in the opening scene where a drugged-up prostitute, Sherrie, (red garter belt and lace) is having sex with her trick, George. George is a member of the Bayside Yacht Club where our protagonist, Megan Riley and her three rich girlfriends hang out. Between grunts, groans and lots of sweat, George studies a framed photograph of Sherrie with her close friend, another prostitute named Allison, who was brutally murdered six months prior. George dies in ecstasy having an orgasm with Sherrie and the women of the Yacht Club are about to be pulled into a murder mystery! As prostitutes continue to turn up dead, things ramp up even more and the Yacht Club ladies, as an antidote to their cheating husbands and boring lifestyle, hire a boy-toy. Megan, a struggling real estate agent and recovering alcoholic, is a breath of fresh air in the group and goes along only because of their friendship. There is a taste of reality TV in the superficiality, the cattiness, the whining. I could picture all of the women, except Megan, on “The Housewives of Orange County!” The boy-toy thing was amusing and a gutsy turn on the double standard. The plot thickens when their boy-toy turns out to be the suspected killer.
Enter Matt Donovan an LAPD detective, widower and all-around good guy who is determined to find the horrific murderer….(victims are mutilated, their right breasts cut off) Megan and Matt are soon an item. The ride continues… on and off yachts, into the world of sadomasochism - scenes all vividly described and well rendered, very real. I admit I did learn something here. There was one “club” that was located in a house on top of a hill and people had to take a tram and have a password in order to get in. It was a party like I’ve never seen and reminded me of that Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie “Eyes Wide Shut.”
The story never loses it’s roller-coaster pace and there is a thrilling scene in the end set on one of the yachts that left me on the edge of my seat. The ending was my favorite part of the book. All of the loose ends came together and all of the scenes paid off in a satisfying way. So, take your e-reader on the plane or grab your towel and hit the beach. Let “Deadly Pleasures” engage and entertain you in a really fun way!

Hi Friends, This has been an extraordinary week and I don't know where to begin. My blog tour to 10 fabulous bloggers, who also reviewed the book, took place and the results were excellent. You can go to Amazon.com and see most of their reviews posted on the Deadly Pleasures page.  Also, last week, Deadly Pleasures was featured in the New York Times, Book Review section, as part of an advertisement by Rising Star Books of  iUniverse.  That was a thrill! And if that was not enough, I received a dozen copies of an inset in Publisher's Weekly magazine, devoted to Indie Authors, and I found that Deadly Pleasures had a small blurb in there and directions where to buy it.  My little book is surprising the heck out of me. One thing I know for sure, my husband Bill is looking down from heaven and saying, "Go Mary." I can never thank him enough. That's if for now folks. Something exciting is in the wind, so I will tell you all about it if it works out. All the best,
Mary Firmin

My Review of I.O.U. Sex

My Review of I.O.U. Sex by Sandra Nachlinger and Sandra Allen.  A Fabulous Read!!

I began this book, I.O.U. Sex, some time ago and had to put it down for many reasons relating to family and work. I could not wait to get back to it. Sandra Nachlinger and Sandra Allen did an incredible job of building the plot and giving us a terrific ending. I don’t like it when the author finishes their story abruptly, and then expects you to buy book number two to get the answer you shelled out your hard earned money for in the first place. This story had a marvelous concept. I mean who doesn’t wonder how our lives would have been changed had we taken a different course? If these women had given in to these High School boyfriends, would their lives have been easier? Obviously, they all had some trauma in their lives as a result of the choices they did make. Could they have avoided some, or all, of that? Could they have married right out of High School and had the perfect family, the perfect life, happily ever after? We don’t know the answer to these questions but these two authors gave us a real time picture of what could happen when one gets older, wiser, sometimes better looking, and more willing to take a risk. This is the story of how June, Peggy, and Kiki recovered from those choices and eventually resolved them.  And this gives us all hope. Thanks for a great job ladies and I look forward to your next book.  Mary Firmin, author, Deadly Pleasures

This Week with Mary

So much has happened since my last post I don't know where to begin.  First, I completed the blog tour where 10 wonderful bloggers reviewed Deadly Pleasures and posted their comments on their blog and on Amazon.com on the Deadly Pleasures Page. The reviews were intuitive and complimentary, and I thank them all. Their sites are posted below if your would like to visit them. Then, an advertisement by Rising Star, iUniverse was in the New York Times Book Review, and there was Deadly Pleasures with a copy of the cover as part of this full page ad called, Classics for Your Collection. What a thrill to see the book in the NYT. And, if that is not enough,  I received a bunch of copies of Publisher's Weekly and found a blurb of my book in their new section for Indie Authors. I know that my dear Bill is looking down from heaven and saying, "Go Mary." He always had such faith in me, and I miss him. At the moment, there is something big in the wind. I don't know if it will occur but I am keeping a good thought.  I will let you know what it is next time. So, bye for now, or as they say in England. TTFN (Ta Ta For Now).  Mary Firmin

Deadly Pleasures Blog Tour

About the book:

Megan Riley has bigger things to worry about than the fact that her neighbor has just been found dead.

Her engagement has just ended, and she is once again on a quest to find Mr. Right-or at least Mr. Right Now. Tired of emotional ties and ready for a new adventure, Megan and her three best friends make a fateful decision. They hire hunky stripper Michael Harrington as their timeshare boytoy-unaware he is the prime suspect in a series of gruesome murders. Suddenly, they find themselves involved in a complicated murder investigation led by a handsome detective who is focused only on finding the twisted serial killer before he strikes again. But who will be the next to die? Megan, the hardworking real estate agent; newly divorced Kathleen; Alex, married to a wealthy businessman; or Rachel, the spurned wife of a hot Hollywood screenwriter?

Following her own investigation, Megan takes a wild ride through L.A.’s bondage parlors, hidden sex clubs, and the extravagant lifestyles of the rich and famous; soon she discovers that her quest for adventure has abruptly transformed into a dangerous game of life and death.

This week with Mary

First of all I would like to thank all of you wonderful blogging ladies for participating in my blog tour. I will try not to let you down. Also, to my dear Stormi, who works so hard to keep me ‘out there’ in the Social Network, I would like to offer my deepest appreciation. And to all the people who are experiencing this event with me for the first time. Welcome!
This whole Social Networking, and blogging, are all new to me. But I love it! I have met so many incredible and talented people, both writers and readers. It is amazing the extraordinary lengths the people on my web sites will go to help each other. When my husband published my book for me with iUniverse he did not know what an important part of my life it would become … since he passed away six months later. This book and all the marvelous people I have come in contact with have saved my sanity. I don’t know what I would do if this were not in my life right now. Of course, my son Kevin, my daughter Kathleen, and my darling grandson, Charlie, bring me much joy.
With the help of all you people, my wonderful friends, and all my family the book is doing rather well, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

This week with Mary

Hello my friends,
I guess you can all see my photo with Ralph Waite, brilliant actor, beloved star of stage, screen and TV. He came to my book signing, along with his beautiful wife, Linda. The signing was held at Rancho Mirage Public Library and featured more than fifty local authors. My thanks to the Palm Springs Writers Guild who, along with the Library, sponsored this event. What a great boost for me and all the other writers. I was able to publicize the event a little bit when I appeared on Eye on the Desert with Patrick Evans, but I know that a great deal of effort went into advertising and resulted in a large number of visitors. I have been outrageously busy and have several radio interviews scheduled by my PR agent. And my Social Network specialist, Stormi, stormi@lightningbookpromotions.com has scheduled a blog tour in the month of April. I will tell you all about it when I am doing it. Also, a blogger from the U.K. and one from India, has already booked an interview. This Internet is a fabulous tool and I am enjoying all of the wonderful authors and readers I am meeting.

Hugs to everyone,
Mary Firmin, author Deadly Pleasures

A. I  really don't have an answer for this, this is really hard. I hate to say things about horrible books I have read. Been so busy with my own writing I haven't read much.

5 star review from Readers Favorite!!

I was so excited today when I looked on the Barnes and Noble site for my book and saw that Kristie, from Readers Favorite, had given Deadly Pleasures a five star review. It was a flattering review and made me feel very pleased that people are enjoying my book. Because Readers Favorite gave my book a 5 star review I have this nifty little badge on my side bar to proudly display this accomplishment.

Here is what Kristi had to say about Deadly Pleasures:

Mary Firmin's debut novel "Deadly Pleasures" will draw you in by the cover and keep you hooked when you begin reading the story! Megan is on the search for "Mr. Right" as she is dealing with a broken engagement and her three best friends are looking for some fun as they have had enough of infidelity in their own marriages. This leads to these four women hiring a "boytoy" to share; however, the man they hire, Michael, is a suspect of a string of murders that have taken place including the murder of Megan's neighbor. As these women spend time with Michael, they find themselves involved in the investigation as well and also the main detective on the case who immediately captures Megan's interest. What began as a month of fun for these four women quickly turns into a deadly and dangerous adventure.

I really enjoyed Firmin's writing style as the story flowed so nicely and yet was filled with vivid descriptions. I felt as if I became a part of the story while reading and was "one of the girls" as I would empathize with them and also laugh along with them throughout their adventures. Matt, the detective, quickly won me over as well and I enjoyed the interactions between him and Megan and the relationship that develops between them. There is a nice balance between romance and mystery making this a great read. I always enjoy a good mystery and I am looking forward to more of Firmin's books as this is one of the best mysteries I have read!

Thanks Kristie for this wonderful review!

New review of Deadly Pleasures from an author!

Mary Firmin’s titillating debut thriller Deadly Pleasures keeps the reader engrossed from start to finish. The author must have asked herself, “Why should men have all the fun? Why shouldn’t women enjoy the services of a boy toy?” The answer is a resounding yes!

Firmin’s deftly plotted mystery tosses real-estate agent Megan Riley into a world populated with a serial killer, bondage clubs, a skunk of a former boyfriend, a handsome hunk detective, while keeping up with her three rich female friends at a local yacht club. After these intrepid females hire a gorgeous boy toy, dead bodies appear with frightening regularity. Twists and turns sneak up on the reader. All signs point to involvement in sexual bondage. What do the women really know about the boy toy? What’s Megan’s role in helping the detective?

Deadly Pleasures doesn’t rely on gimmicks. Firmin writes with authority. Fully developed characters keep the story moving. While the setting is a yacht club for the wealthy, readers can relate to their universal problems. This reviewer hopes Mary Firmin gives us a follow-up book soon.

This week with Mary
This has been a hectic week for me.  My sister is visiting from England and we have had a great time.  Barnes and Noble is featuring Deadly Pleasures on its Rising Star page for the month of February, so if anyone would like to buy a book for themselves or as a gift, now is the time to do it.  iUniverse is also featuring the book on its Rising Star Page. I have had some interest in the book from a couple of agents.  Time alone will tell.  I attended the Palm Springs Writers Guild last week and they featured a panel of agents. The discussion was enlightening and I took away a lot of good information.  Thank you for the wonderful reviews you have all given me on Amazon.com. It all really helps.  Have a wonderful week.  All the best, Mary.

Hi Friends,
Another interesting week. As you can see the Video Book Trailer was put on the site. I hope you like it. I love the music. An interview and great Clarion review!

There a couple of things worth mentioning today, First up I was interviewed on Books, Movies, Reviews. Oh my! I would love for you to check it out!

And the second thing is the most exciting thing I want to tell you about. I received a five star review from  Clarion Reviews!! Here is a small excerpt from the review:

"Firmin writes more like a seasoned storyteller than a debut novelist, making good use of her personal experience as a yacht club member and author of a California society column to create sympathetic nuanced portraits of the wealthy who frequent such clubs while simultaneously poking fun at their eccentricities. All of the characters have good points and foibles, complex back stories, and reasons to keep readers rooting for them. Megan’s charm and pluck, insecurities, money troubles, and battle to stay alcohol-free make her an appealing, well-rounded protagonist. The action in the story comes fast and furious, alternating between sexy and lethal, sometimes straddling both extremes at once. Although the graphic descriptions of bondage torture may make some squirm, these detailed depictions of the seedy side of the bondage lifestyle make the gruesome murders all the more chilling." Jill Allen, Clarion Reviews

So many great reviews are coming in for Deadly Pleasures!

This week with Mary

Happy New Year to everyone. May you find Joy, Love and Success in 2012.  Last year was a sad one for me since I lost my husband.  I am now trying to recover and throw myself into the book.  Deadly Pleasures' Publicity Campaign will begin on Jan 16th and 3000 Press Releases will go out to radio, TV, and magazines looking for interviews.  I am hoping we can boost our sales and draw recognition to the book.  Everyone who has read it seems to like it even the men, which I found very interesting and exciting.  In fact, the Kirkus reviewer recommended Deadly Pleasures as a selection for both men and women.  I attended my first Palm Springs Writers Guild meeting in a long time on Saturday and the speaker was wonderful.  Jim Kremer who wrote "1001 Ways to Market Your Books" gave us lots of interesting and workable tips.  I hope you all continue to follow my blog site and I will try to make this fun, interesting and informative for you.  I plan to buy Jim's book and I will let you know if I can recommend it to you writers out there. Thanks again, Mary

Description of Deadly Pleasure:

Megan Riley has bigger things to worry about than the fact that her neighbor has just been found dead.
Her engagement has just ended, and she is once again on a quest to find Mr. Right—or at least Mr. Right Now. Tired of emotional ties and ready for a new adventure, Megan and her three best friends make a fateful decision. They hire hunky stripper Michael Harrington as their timeshare boytoy—unaware he is the prime suspect in a series of gruesome murders.

Following her own investigation, Megan takes a wild ride through L.A.'s bondage parlors, hidden sex clubs, and the extravagant lifestyles of the rich and famous; soon she discovers that her quest for adventure has abruptly transformed into a dangerous game of life and death.
